Spring Cleaning Tips

There’s nothing quite like a bit of spring cleaning to help make your home more comfortable and inviting for your family and guests. It’s not only good for your well-being, it can promote a sense harmony during this wonderful time of year. Although the task of cleaning your entire home can be quite daunting, this is why we’ve come up with a few motivating tips to help you get ready for this year’s cleaning season!

Get Started

One of the most difficult challenges to overcome when deep cleaning your home is to simply get started. On paper, this might seem like an easy step, but for some, cleaning their entire home seems like a monstrous task. Although, when you’re able to muster enough mental fortitude to gather your cleaning supplies and start wiping things down, something incredible happens: the daunting task suddenly seems manageable. So, do yourself a favor and just get started!

Take It One Room At A Time

Another way to undertake the intimidating chores of spring cleaning is to take on each room individually. By focusing on one room at a time, you’ll be able to see results in a short amount of time, and you might even feel accomplished after finishing a room. All of these benefits will encourage you to take on the next room, and so on and so forth.

Purge The Unwanted

Another way to maximize your cleaning efforts is by donating all the clothing and items you don’t need anymore. This will not only free up space in your home, it will help those in need in your community. Even a small box of donations can make a big difference towards making your home feel spacious!

Spring cleaning not only provides a well-balanced environment, it can help you fall in love with your home all over again. Taking Care Of Your Furniture

At Bel Furniture, we understand that buying furniture is an investment, and any investment is worth protecting. To help ensure that your special purchase lasts as long as possible, here are some tips for cleaning and protecting your furniture.

Wood Furniture

Depending on the type of finish on your furniture, cleaning techniques can vary. For most wood furniture, cleaning with a lot of water is a big mistake. Due to its porous nature, it is unadvisable to clean wood with an excessive amount of water.

For painted wood, cleaning with a damp rag is fine, however for some wood finishes, any amount of water can be damaging, For lacquered, oiled, or finished wood, it's best to use a dry dusting technique; a simple microfiber cloth with a wood oil cleaning product.

Upholstery Furniture

Fabric furniture, although beautiful, can be a pain to keep clean, especially in a house with pets and children. For preventative measures, it is best to use a cleaning product that repels stains and be sure to test the product on a small part of the fabric first to ensure it won't discolor the fabric. For basic spot cleaning, an easy solution of hot water and dish soap applied liberally and scrubbed with a microfiber cloth may be all you need.

For more stubborn stains, spray hydrogen peroxide (vodka and vinegar also work welldon’t worry, the smell goes away when dry!) on the stain and let sit for 10-15 minutes and then steam clean until the stain disappears. If you’re still uncertain about how to go about cleaning a particular stain, consult a professional cleaning service.

For whatever life throws at your home furnishings, there are things you can do to help keep your furniture in showroom condition for years to come.
